KIVA DUNES RESIDENCE

Floating stairs in a concrete floor home

building in hurricane prone regions

fall 2015 — design proposal

Kiva Dunes Residence is a project conceived on the idea of hospitality service in a highly visited area by beach goers in the state of Alabama. Prompt to hurricanes and flooding, Kiva Dunes design covenant remains strict and conservative in both aesthetics and in construction methodologies. Using the nationally-recognized Fortified Home construction standard, Kiva Dunes and the rest of the coastal areas in the country that are prone to natural disasters are able to afford peace of mind to its users as well as economic incentives such as tax credits and reduced insurance costs. Acknowledging the economical implications of building a sustainable vacation home in a place like such, this project also explores the local market for rentals as a way to offset the initial costs of construction.
