Architecture shaped by remarkable sites, bold ideas, and the unique way people live

OH Design Lab works closely with clients to translate their ideas into modern buildings that respond to the site, the budget, and the way they will be used. The studio focuses primarily on custom homes while also supporting select commercial and institutional projects. As a small practice, each project receives the attention it deserves and is developed through close collaboration with the client and project team.

A clear process from idea to construction

Most projects start with uncertainty. This is how we bring clarity before building.

  • Understand your goals and define direction

  • Explore ideas and align on a clear approach

  • Develop a set of drawings for pricing and building

Design develops through listening, exploration, and iteration.
Each project evolves through dialogue with the client and careful consideration of site, program, and construction.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you work only in Lexington?

I’m based in Lexington and work across Central Kentucky and surrounding areas. Availability depends on project scope, location, and timing.

What types of projects do you take on?

I focus primarily on designing new custom homes and major additions. I take on renovations selectively when the scope is substantial and benefits from full architectural involvement. I also support institutional clients on select facility and improvement projects.

Can you help with permits and code requirements?

Yes. I prepare coordinated construction documents suitable for permitting and contractor pricing, and I help guide projects through the local review process as part of the design scope.

Do you take on small projects?

Sometimes. I’m a good fit when the scope is clearly defined and the project requires architectural problem-solving—not just drafting. For smaller scopes, I typically begin with a paid feasibility or project-definition phase to confirm constraints, approach, and budget.

Do you work with a preferred contractor?

I regularly collaborate with builders selected by the client and can also recommend contractors depending on project type, schedule, and fit.

When should I involve an architect?

The best time is early, before purchasing land or starting design work. Early involvement allows the design to respond to the site, program, and budget from the beginning.

How does the design process typically begin?

Most projects begin with an initial consultation followed by a design phase where we explore ideas, site conditions, and budget before developing construction drawings.
