We are OH Design Lab, a team of experienced professionals who specialize in both residential and commercial design. Our team is dedicated to delivering high-quality results that exceed our clients’ expectations. We are located in Lexington, KY, and are available for commissions in the entire state.
The story of OH Design Lab began forming in 2018, when Oliver Hidalgo was pursuing his Master’s in Architecture at the University of Kentucky. During his last semester, Oliver interned with local architects and quickly made acquaintances in the construction industry. This experience gave him insight into the full cycle of client-architect-builder relationships and the pitfalls and shortcomings within it.
Oliver was drawn to the architecture he experienced in his travels and back home, and he was committed to carving a niche for himself in the market.
He began advocating for thoughtful residential design that prioritizes the spatial experience and the structure’s capacity to be informed by the natural environment.
After receiving his first commission from a young couple to design their forever home, Oliver quit his 8-5 job in the industrial architecture sector to start OH Design Lab.
At OH Design Lab, we value collaboration with our clients and strive to create practical, functional, and aesthetically pleasing designs that respond directly to our clients’ needs and budget. We prioritize respecting local site conditions, such as topography, solar exposure, views, and wind, to conceive truly unique designs that complement the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.
Although we specialize in new residential builds, we’re always excited to work with entrepreneurs and launch innovative concepts. Our ultimate goal is to provide the best design solution while maintaining the project within its financial and jurisdictional constraints.
What sets us apart is our vision and the iterative design process we undergo before establishing the direction for each project. We start each project with a blank slate and rely on keen observation of the landscape and a deeper understanding of our clients’ values to inform our designs.
